Job description

Manufacturing Engineer Job Description

Mayman Aerospace created the world's only successful turbine powered Jetpack. We are a venture-backed company with DoD contracts working to develop our Air Utility Vehicle. It will be the smallest & fastest, heavy-lift micro-turbine powered VTOL aircraft ever designed. We are currently developing our fifth full-scale flying variant called the P100.

At our company, we foster a relaxed and informal atmosphere with a fast-paced prototype culture. We strongly believe in nurturing individuality and promoting innovation. To thrive here, a successful candidate should be highly motivated, enterprising, and genuinely enthusiastic. Our collaborative environment values teamwork over ego, emphasizing the importance of being proactive and embracing speed and intellectual risks. Working well under pressure, tackling challenges, and assuming responsibility are essential traits. While days can be long, we prioritize the excitement and fulfillment that come with the work rather than counting hours.

Mayman Aerospace is looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our existing engineering team designing, building, and flight testing our awesome autonomous aircrafts.

Responsibilities
  • Scale Production: Lead the manufacturing, assembly, and scaling strategies for our P100 drone and future variants.
  • Hands-On Fabrication: Act as part-time technician during Low-Rate Initial Production, physically building and assembling P100 drones and future variants.
  • Tooling & Fixturing: Design, prototype, and implement custom tooling/fixtures to aid in fabrication, assembly, and test.
  • Standardize Processes: Author, validate, and continuously update clear work instructions and quality standards for component and system-level builds.
  • Set Up Infrastructure: Take ownership of setting up, optimizing, and scaling our shop floor layout and manufacturing infrastructure.
  • Design for Manufacturing: Partner closely with the design engineering team to provide DFM feedback, ensuring hardware is optimized for cost and buildability.
  • Field & Flight Test Support: Travel to the test range to support flight testing, contributing to test operations, hardware troubleshooting, and rapid field repairs.
  • Startup Agility: Adapt to the shifting priorities of an early-stage company, tackling any unplanned challenges to push the team across the finish line.
Basic Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Problem Solver: Strong engineering fundamentals and critical thinking.
  • Owner Mindset: Take ownership of tasks, driving them to completion
  • Adaptable & Prioritized: Skilled at prioritizing tasks and executing multiple assignments concurrently in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Collaborator & Communicator: Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills for team communication, technical documentation, and configuration management.
Required Skills
  • Hands-on Fabrication: Experience with advanced composites, metallics (milling, drilling, welding, sheet metal), bonded joints, and fastened joints.
  • CAD Proficiency: Experience designing assembly and test fixturing within modern CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
  • GD&T Knowledge: Strong understanding of and ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Vehicle Integration: Background in vehicle fabrication (aerospace, automotive, marine, or robotics). Work on personal or extracurricular hardware builds (e.g., Formula SAE, DBF, RC aviation) is a plus.
  • Regulatory Requirement: US citizen or resident status as this position will require access to export controlled data (security clearance is not required).
Desired Skills
  • Avionics & Electronics: Experience with wire harness fabrication, routing, and crimping, as well as general electronics integration and testing.
  • Production Systems: Knowledge of PLM, ERP, or manufacturing execution systems (MES) to help us establish our digital thread as we grow.
