Job Title: Principal Geotechnical Engineer
Work Location: Atlanta, GA
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead our growing Geotechnical Engineering department. This role is responsible for overseeing the department's technical & operational efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation in geotechnical engineering, proven leadership abilities, and a track record of successful client relations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical lead for geotechnical engineering projects, providing expert analysis, engineering judgment, and design recommendations across a wide range of subsurface and foundation conditions.
  • Plan, oversee, and review subsurface investigation programs, including borings, test pits, laboratory testing, and preparation of high-quality geotechnical reports and specifications.
  • Perform and provide senior-level review of geotechnical analyses related to foundations, earth retention systems, slope stability, settlement, pavements, and ground improvement solutions.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including field observation, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex geotechnical and construction materials testing (CMT) issues.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop geotechnical and CMT staff, fostering technical excellence, leadership growth, and professional development.
  • Coordinate closely with civil, structural, and construction teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into overall project designs and construction plans.
  • Lead senior-level review, preparation, and sealing of geotechnical engineering reports, design recommendations, and technical deliverables.
  • Serve as a primary client interface, supporting proposal development, marketing efforts, and expansion of geotechnical and CMT consulting services.
  • Provide project management oversight, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Deliver strategic consulting services and expert-level solutions in recognized areas of technical expertise; support expert witness assignments as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project delivery and business objectives.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required (Georgia registration preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including leadership on complex projects.
  • Experience with GDOT (Georgia Department of Transportation) projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in geotechnical investigation programs, foundation design, retaining systems, slope stability, settlement analysis, pavements, and construction oversight.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets and forecasts.
  • Significant experience in client engagement, expand client relationships, and support sustainable team growth.
