CTL Engineering is hiring a Project Engineer | Construction Services (0-5 yrs experience, ODOT prequalified)!

We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for a Construction Project Engineer who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration and inspection services/testing for primarily state (ODOT) projects. You’ll oversee and manage a wide range of roadway/bridge projects. You’ll leverage your expertise in infrastructure construction and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies. This role will be involved with projects through every stage of the construction process, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.

  • This position will use experience while learning new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture.
  • You will be involved in all project aspects including design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction.

Highlights:

  • This position will include a mix of field and office work.
  • Must be a prequalified Construction Engineer 1 with ODOT.
  • This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager while managing a team of direct reports or projects.
  • Projects are typically in the northwest Ohio region – usually within a @60 minute travel radius. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company vehicle may be provided, based on the assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of construction administration and inspection services for infrastructure projects:
    • Perform construction administration and inspection services for primarily state projects but could also include county and local Clients.
    • Manage roadway/bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects.
    • Work with the Marketing Department as a key contributor to the technical aspects of proposals.
    • Monitor and enforce standards and specifications.
    • Read and apply blueprints and construction documents on a variety of infrastructure projects.
    • Travel to project sites to inspects construction projects - ensuring contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals on various infrastructure projects;
    • Manage, coordinate, supervise, and provide technical support and direction to Technicians and Inspectors performing inspection work and materials testing on construction projects (concrete, foundation, pavement construction testing, observing and inspecting roadway and infrastructure).
    • Oversee on-site project inspections including, but not limited to, soil compaction tests, concrete field tests including slump tests, casting concrete cylinders for future lab tests, verifying the placement of reinforcing steel, and other tests as needed.
    • Verify plan quantities and calculations with bid plans;
    • Prepare and maintain project records and reports;
    • Notify the Contractor or Project Manager with status updates or about non-confirming projects;
    • Review project submittals including CPM schedules.
  • Communicate with clients on deliverables.
  • Assist with developing project proposals and construction cost estimates.
  • Assist with developing/managing schedules, budgets, and quality of work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of civil and engineering principles, reporting, analysis and management of teams and projects.
  • Extensive experience in the Construction industry and engineering equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Must have technical skills and understanding of P&L.
  • Must have ability to manage multiple projects and remain quality-focused.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage and train others and be a team player.
  • Ability to be reliable and on time.
  • Must have good customer service skills, a high level of professionalism, and comfortable with client interaction – have the ability to build relationships.
  • Be quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Targeting 0-10 years of applicable experience
  • Construction material inspection and testing experience is a plus.
  • Must be a prequalified Construction Engineer 1 with ODOT
  • Being on track for EI or PE licensure is a strong plus.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
