The Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB) is one component of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). AIB includes the manufacturing facility in Talladega, Alabama and Birmingham, Alabama along with the operations of five Base Supply Centers in two states, which are located on Redstone Arsenal, Fort Rucker, Anniston Army Depot, Robins Air Force Base and Moody Air Force Base.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Store Clerk role will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the retail store in the operation of a Base Supply Center/Individual Equipment Element in compliance with Javit's Wagner O'Day Act, federal and military guidelines, and Alabama Industries for the Blind (AIB).
ABOUT YOU
You will play a vital role in the duties of a cashier with all aspects of customer service of the Base Supply Center, as you will be a part of the AIB team in producing high-quality work. This position reports to the Store Manager - Base Supply Center, Moody Air Force Base.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must meet the federal definition of legal blindness.
  • Must have the ability to possess computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and a Google Suite.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience utilizing basic computer skills of internet navigation, email, electronic file management, and basic software applications.
  • Possess a REAL ID-compliant, STAR ID, or a valid U.S. Passport to gain access to the military base.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals that are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled, or has another significant disability.
• Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a retail store environment.
• Minimum one (1) year of work experience maintaining inventory control.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must follow AIDB policies and procedures.
  • Must follow Moody Air Force Base guidance and regulations to maintain access to the base.
  • Must understand, support, and follow the mission of the AbilityOne Program by remaining in compliance of statutory and regulatory requirements set forth in the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act. You are expected to conduct all business ethically and lawfully.
  • Demonstrate a good attendance record. May be required to work overtime to meet on-time delivery schedules.
  • Perform your job responsibilities that sets a good example for others to follow.
  • Deal pleasantly and courteously with all of the AIDB Team.
  • Attend conferences, in-service training, and other functions as directed by supervisor.
  • Possess general knowledge of office equipment and machines.
  • Must follow the AIDB policies or procedures related to the operations of sales transaction records and reconciliation documentation.
  • Attend training on customer service, increase of sales, inventory control, and computer applications and become efficient in these areas and provide information to customers and co-workers.
  • Maintain high organizational and time management skills and have the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information in a timely professional manner.

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Keep workstation clean and neat at all times.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and deal with changes in the work assignments.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Develop and establish good customer services skills as related to the Base Supply Center items.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must complete a criminal history background check and be able to gain access to the military base.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate computerized cash registers and related sales equipment.
  • Process credit card payments by using a credit card terminal.
  • When operating computerized cash registers, make simple math calculations, count money, and reconcile the cash drawer.
  • Complete daily reports and cash verification reports by maintaining transaction records and cash register reconciliation documentation.
  • Perform periodic physical inventory counts, including re-supply stock on shelves.
  • Maintain accurate pricing for all merchandise.
  • Prepare displays in a way to assist in increasing sales of merchandise.
  • Participate in annual physical inventory counts of the Base Supply Center.
  • Must possess or develop an understanding of cultures and needs of persons who are deaf, blind, or deaf/blind, ensuring all actions and decisions demonstrate a respect for and value of persons with sensory loss.
  • Must attend Disability Sensitivity Training within the first six (6) months of employment.

SALARY: $12.91 - $14.86 Scale IB Rank 23
Direct deposit is required.
The work schedule is based on 8 hours each day with a total of 40 hours each work week. This is not an exempt position, and is subject to overtime of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
