Job description

McLaren Bay Region Service/Support Position

Position Summary:

Assists surgery team with direct/indirect patient care activities including sterile procedure setup.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly patient care environment in surgery, adhering to established policy.

2. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing specified skills, including transporting and activities that occur in a sterile environment.

3. Demonstrates competency in utilization of specified equipment required for patient care, including but not limited to, cleaning and assembling instrument tray and operating the autoclave.

4. Assists with supplying OR suites with stock items; supplies blanket/fluid warmer; runs errands that support patient care activity.

5. Assists with room turnover by performing activities such as, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, removing trash, and disinfecting as appropriate.

6. Responds to real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to established procedure.

7. Assumes responsibility for obtaining current accurate information and expand knowledge base through utilization of appropriate learning experiences, and attending mandatory annual in-services.

8. Demonstrates organizational skills and appropriately priorities assigned work responsibilities.

9. Communicates effectively and reports relevant observations of patient status to responsible Registered Nurse and follow through as directed.

10. Respects patient rights by providing privacy and confidentiality of information.

11. Participates in performance improvement activities.

12. Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.

13. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification

Preferred:

  • Previous Operating Room experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a patient care area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of a) medical terminology and b) asepsis and conduct in a sterile environment
  • Affective verbal and written communication skills

Position Specific Expectations:

1. Personal contact with various Medical Center employees.

2. Must be physically capable of performing Job Responsibilities with or without accommodation.
