Job description

Patient Service Assistant - Outpatient Surgery Center Pre Op

Join the team behind exceptional patient care at UVA Health. Provides essential non-direct patient care and operational support services throughout the Health System to promote safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Assists with patient transport, room turnover, supply management, equipment readiness, and administrative support while collaborating closely with clinical and operational teams to maintain workflow efficiency and an exceptional patient experience.

The Clinical Support Assistant performs a variety of routine clinical support, patient flow, and operational duties within the Health System. This role supports perioperative and clinical teams by assisting with patient transport, maintaining clean and safe patient care environments, monitoring supplies and equipment, and providing administrative support as needed. The position plays a vital role in ensuring smooth departmental operations and supporting a positive patient and visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and team members by following established patient safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Transport patients throughout the Health System and assist with patient discharge transportation in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Escort patients and visitors to and from perioperative and clinical departments as needed.
  • Perform room and patient bay turnover between patients to support efficient patient flow and readiness of care spaces.
  • Conduct equipment maintenance checks and safety inspections according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Stock and organize departmental supplies to ensure appropriate inventory levels and operational readiness.
  • Monitor supplies in secondary storage areas and remove or report expired items in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Assist with lifting, repositioning, and moving patients after demonstrating competency in the use of Safe Move equipment and devices.
  • Provide donning and doffing coach support when necessary to promote infection prevention and safety compliance.
  • Support front desk operations by managing phone calls, assisting with communication needs, and helping coordinate patient flow.
  • Perform administrative and clerical support functions as needed to assist departmental operations.
  • Maintain required skills, competencies, certifications, and training necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support high-quality patient care and operational excellence.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The pay range for this role is $15.37 - $23.82 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
