Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Pathology Operations Manager to lead the operational, technical, and regulatory activities of our pathology laboratory services. This leader is responsible for ensuring high-quality laboratory operations across a 24/7 environment while supporting staff development, quality initiatives, compliance standards, and the implementation of laboratory technologies across the WakeMed system. The Technical Pathology Manager will lead a team of supervisors and laboratory professionals and serve as a trusted partner to organizational leaders, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll do
  • Lead the daily operations of pathology laboratory services, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality testing and results delivery across a 24/7 operation.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and support supervisors and laboratory team members while fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee department staffing, budgeting, labor management, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and accreditation requirements.
  • Evaluate, implement, and support pathology testing platforms and technologies across the WakeMed system while providing technical expertise to affiliated laboratory locations.
  • Represent the laboratory on organizational committees, task forces, and interdisciplinary initiatives while collaborating with leaders across the health system.

Who you are
  • Experienced laboratory leader with a strong background in pathology operations, quality management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled at leading and developing teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Knowledgeable in laboratory accreditation standards, quality assurance programs, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Comfortable managing budgets, staffing plans, and operational performance metrics.
  • Effective communicator who builds collaborative relationships across departments and levels of the organization.
