Job description

Pathologists' Assistant

We are seeking a certified Pathologists' Assistant to join our academic hospital's Anatomic Pathology team. The ideal candidate will perform gross dissection of surgical specimens, assist with postmortem examinations, and support the training of pathology residents and medical students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform gross examination and dictation of surgical specimens under pathologist supervision.
  • Assist in autopsies, including prosection, dissection, and documentation.
  • Photograph specimens and maintain specimen integrity for further analysis.
  • Prepare and submit tissues for histologic processing.
  • Maintain records and logs in compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.
  • Participate in teaching and training of pathology staff and students.
  • Ensure cleanliness and biosafety standards in the gross room and autopsy suite.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA-ASCP) required or eligible within 6 months.
  • At least 1 year of relevant grossing experience (clinical internship counts).
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathology terminology, and lab safety protocols.
