Job description

Under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A) impacts students' lives by:
  • Conduct speech and language screenings and perform hearing screenings (limited to pass/fail interpretation)
  • Working with students one-on-one or in small groups to assist with language and communication development
  • Consulting with the Director of Special Education regarding opportunities to incorporate speech and language strategies in classroom settings
  • Remaining knowledgeable of current trends and federal and state regulations in the field of speech-language pathology and special education to ensure compliance
  • Assisting in writing speech and language IEPs and progress reports to ensure students are on track to reaching their objectives
  • With permission and guidance of the supervising speech-language pathologist, SLP-As may participate in parent conferences, individual educational program meetings (IEP), case conferences, and interdisciplinary team conferences.
  • Writing documentation notes of therapy sessions as required by Medicaid regulations - treatment ties directly to IEP goals/objectives; willingness to be trained on and use electronic encounter tracking system
  • Maintain student service logs for each student on caseload
  • Keeping certifications and licensures current
  • Taking on other tasks as needed
