Job description

We're seeking an AP/CP board-certified/eligible Pathologist to join a collegial team at a community hospital in Chattanooga, TN, part of a multi-hospital regional health system. You'll practice broad-based general surgical pathology with a steady volume in breast and GI/colon, frequent GU, and non-GYN cytology (including FNA), plus rapid on-site evaluations (ROSE) in collaboration with interventional pulmonology and other procedural services. The environment is collaborative, well-resourced, and plugged into an extensive system network for subspecialty support.

Highlights

  • Well-resourced community setting within a comprehensive regional system (multiple hospitals, robust imaging, women's services, and surgical programs).
  • Cytology-forward practice: mix includes non-GYN cytology and FNAs; ROSE experience (EBUS/TBNA, bronch) is a plus. Regional partners in the area are using Ion robotic-assisted bronchoscopy; comfort supporting ROSE in that context is valuable.
  • Balanced generalist work: breast and GI/colon are common; GU, peripheral smear reviews, and "see-anything" general surgical pathology are part of the day-to-day.
  • System reach & support: access to an extensive PathGroup network and modern hospital resources, including advanced surgical technologies adopted across the system.
  • No autopsies.

About The Practice

  • System-wide investments in advanced technology (e.g., newest generation surgical robotics), reflecting a modernization mindset and strong capital support.

About Chattanooga, TN

  • No State Income Tax: Keep more of what you earn.
  • Affordable Lifestyle: Overall cost of living about 10% below the U.S. average, with especially favorable housing prices.
  • Nestled on the Tennessee River with easy access to mountains, lakes, boating, kayaking, rock climbing, biking, and hiking, plus weekend getaways to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
  • Chattanooga is a city that blends culture, food, and tech/startup energy with welcoming neighborhoods, strong schools, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

Why PathGroup?

  • Largest Independent Private Pathology Group in the U.S. -Join a well-established, physician-led organization with a reputation for excellence.
  • Physician-Led Decision-Making -Your voice matters in shaping clinical practice and organizational direction.
  • Collaborative & Supportive Culture -Work in an environment where teamwork is valued, knowledge is shared, and expert pathologists across every subspecialty support one another.
  • Innovative Digital Pathology -Leverage cutting-edge technology for efficiency and advanced diagnostic abilities.
  • Work-Life Balance -Receive the support you need to maintain a fulfilling career and personal life, with generous PTO included.
  • Growth & Development -Take advantage of professional development opportunities, training expansion, project collaboration, and other academic-style professional activities.
  • Competitive Compensation & Benefits -Receive a competitive salary, malpractice coverage (including tail), full benefits, and a 401(k) Safe Harbor Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sign out a diverse surgical pathology caseload with an emphasis in breast, GI/colon, and GU.
  • Perform and interpret non-GYN cytology and FNAs; provide ROSE during bronch/EBUS and other procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians; participate in tumor boards and quality/consultative activities typical of an integrated community hospital.
  • Share equitable call with a small, tight-knit group.

Qualifications
