Nuclear Medicine Technologist (s)duties include:
-
Performs routine to moderately complex Nuclear Medicine examination procedures.

These exams are achieved utilizing SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT.

Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations [that pertain to nuclear medicine technology practices.]

Knowledge of the medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics and how they relate to the cardiovascular, skeletal, endocrine, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems of the human body.

Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management.

Ability to document excessive radiation exposure in the working environment.
-
Ability to communicate orally and in writing post iodine-131 radiation safety precautions.

Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management.

Ability to troubleshoot gamma camera and auxiliary equipment problems.

Ability to analyze computer generated data for technical quality and artifacts and initiate corrective measures.

Knowledge of medical events requiring documentation and the ability to properly document them and make recommendations to the radiation safety officer (RSO).

Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographic images while minimizing patient dosage.

Practice radiation safety to reduce exposure to patient, staff and self.

This is achieved using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lines walls and collimation and following ALARA.

Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.

May be required by procedure or patients' condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions, and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Responsible for cleanliness and stocking adequate levels of supplies in assigned areas.

Must report equipment malfunction in a timely manner to the supervisor.

Incumbent must be professional, cooperative and be able to work with other employees.

Meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.

Consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.

Provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
