Job description

Patent Litigation Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Patent Litigation Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Los Angeles or San Francisco, California.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 1-3 years of patent litigation experience to join a nationally recognized Intellectual Property practice. The team represents clients in high-stakes patent disputes involving cutting-edge technologies across industries including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, software, semiconductors, telecommunications, mechanical devices, and computer hardware.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in patent infringement litigation in U.S. district courts.

  • Assist with appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

  • Participate in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, claim construction filings, and other substantive litigation documents.

  • Conduct legal and technical research and analyze complex patent issues.

  • Assist with depositions, expert discovery, trial preparation, and trial proceedings.

  • Advise clients on patent-related matters, including technology transactions, trade secret disputes, and patent-adjacent antitrust issues.

  • Collaborate with clients, technical experts, and multidisciplinary legal teams to develop litigation strategy.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • 1-3 years of patent litigation experience.

  • Admission to the California Bar is preferred but not required at the time of application.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. patent law and patent litigation procedures.

  • Technical degree or relevant technical work experience is preferred.

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is a plus, but not required.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and advocacy skills.

  • Outstanding academic credentials and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $225,000-$435,000, commensurate with class year, experience, and qualifications.

  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including competitive associate compensation and benefits consistent with a leading Am Law firm.
