LEAD PASTOR POSITION

General Description: The primary mission of the Pastor of High Prairie Church is to lead and disciple the congregation by faithfully proclaiming the Word of God through expository preaching and teaching that aligns with the churchโ€™s doctrinal beliefs for the purpose of transforming lives. Under the authority of the Elder Board with approval of the Congregation, the Pastor is the pastor, preacher and teacher of High Prairie Church. He is accountable to the Elder Board, of which he is an ex-officio member. He is selected for service for a period of a year by the Elders, with approval by vote of the Congregation. He will lead, manage and supervise the staff; advise and serve the lay leadership and congregation. He will provide leadership by modeling and developing Christ-like servanthood, behavior, relationships, fellowship, an encouraging spirit, cooperation and prayer support as he serves the Lord Jesus Christ. He will lead the staff and the church as a humble servant and shepherd Godโ€™s flock.

Specific Areas of Responsibility
  • Directs staff members: Youth Pastor, Pianist, Church Secretary.
  • Attends monthly and special meetings of the Elder Board.
  • Attends other boards/committees as an ex-officio member as needed.
  • Provides spiritual, vocational, and relational leadership to the staff and coordinates weekly staff meetings to build relationships, pray for one another, and encourage forward momentum of ministries.
  • Visits church members in hospitals, nursing homes, and at home. Conducts personal counseling as required.
  • Annually conducts written employee reviews for submission to the Elder Board.
  • Sits before the Elder Board for an annual evaluation.
  • Oversees the planning of worship and special services. Performs pastoral duties (including weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc.) on a regular basis as circumstances demand.
  • Presides at the church for worship services, special services, special events, etc., unless excused by the Elders.
  • Directs the preaching ministry and schedule of the church (all preaching and preachers must be cleared through him.)
  • Publish a biโ€‘quarterly church newsletter.
Compensation
  • The Pastorโ€™s salary and all fiscal benefits will be set and proposed annually by the Elders and approved by the Congregation. Vacation periods and sick leave will be set by the Elders. A housing allowance is given.
Education and Requirements
  • Graduate professional degree in Divinity or related field.
  • Utilizes technology wisely to maximize and enhance communication and research.
  • Background check required if a final candidate for the position.
