Job description

Exciting long-term locum opportunity for a Board-Certified General Surgeon in beautiful Pendleton, OR! This is a high-impact role covering clinic, OR, and 24-hour call in a well-supported acute care setting. Up to 1 year coverage with block scheduling available.

Location: Pendleton, Oregon

Nestled in Eastern Oregon, Pendleton offers stunning mountain views, outdoor recreation, rodeo culture, and small-town charm

Position Overview
  • Specialty: General Surgery

  • Position Type: Locum Tenens

  • Openings: 3 Surgeons (1 working at a time)

  • Setting: Acute Care Hospital + Clinic

  • Start: ASAP (Temporary privileges available)

  • Coverage Need: 7 10 day blocks for up to 1 year

  • Call: 24/7 while on assignment

Schedule Details

Monday Friday

  • Clinic: 8:00 AM 5:00 PM ( patients/day)

  • OR Time: Dedicated surgical blocks (varies by day)

  • On Call: Continuous during assignment

Weekends

  • 24-hour call coverage

  • Handoff at 5:30 AM

Surgeon must function as a full-time member of the team during assignment.

Clinical Volume & Scope
  • 500 surgeries per year ( 10/week)

  • 75% outpatient cases

  • 2 inpatient admissions/week

  • Clinic volume: patients/day

  • Trauma response required (ED coverage)

Required Procedures:
  • Diagnostic & Screening Colonoscopies

  • Cholecystectomy

  • Hernia Repair (with mesh)

  • Appendectomy

  • Diagnostic EGD

  • Breast Excision

  • Abdominal Wall Repair

  • Skin Excision

  • Hemorrhoidectomy

EMR Systems
  • Hospital: Meditech

  • Clinic: eClinicalWorks (eCW)

Required Qualifications
  • Board Certified (Required)

  • Active Oregon License (or in process for May/June start)

  • Residency/Fellowship Trained

  • ️ ACLS, BLS, DEA

  • NPDB Self-Query (within 30 days)

  • ️ Clean malpractice history highly preferred

  • Must be comfortable in both clinic & hospital setting

Trauma Experience

Surgeon must respond to ED traumas including:

  • Falls, MVAs, ATV accidents

  • GSWs, stabbings

  • Blunt trauma

  • Agricultural & machinery injuries

  • Fly into Pasco, WA (65-mile drive to Pendleton)

  • Rental car required

  • Preferred lodging options available (hotel/apartment)

  • Temporary privileges available while full credentialing completes
