JOB ID: 26000031

Hershey, PA
Part-time
Job Category: Health Services (Medical, Dental and Psych Svcs)

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the worlds best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home and a top-notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.

MHS is seeking a Part-Time Behavior Support Specialist II (BSS-II) to provide comprehensive behavior support services to elementary school students and staff. This role offers structured learning opportunities that build essential skills for healthy relationships and effective self-management. The BSS-II implements individual skill-building sessions and psychoeducational groups using evidence-based social and emotional learning materials for students in the Elementary School (PreK-4th grade). Success in this role requires skill in structuring environments, behavior prevention and modification, and crisis intervention, along with strong judgment, flexibility, organization, and time management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive behavioral management services and structured learning opportunities that support students social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

  • Deliver individual skill work and psychoeducational skills groups using evidence-based SEL curricula.

  • Implement proactive strategies including environmental structure, behavior prevention, and positive behavior supports.

  • Apply behavior modification strategies and support student skill development for successful interpersonal relationships and self-management.

  • Provide crisis intervention support and follow-up behavioral programming as needed, including during the summer through the Year-Round Education (YRE) program.

  • Partner effectively with Sponsors, Scholastics, Home Life, and Student Health Services through a collaborative, team-based approach.

  • Contribute recommendations and activities that support ethical, appropriate, and comprehensive behavioral interventions as program needs evolve.

  • Support the operation of the Health Center and/or Skills Centers for students.

  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and active engagement with students to promote a safe, supportive learning environment.

Work Schedule & Location

This is a year-round, onsite position in Hershey, PA, and hours are flexible based on student needs, up to 29 hours per week. Most hours will fall MondayFriday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Behavior Support Specialists are represented by the Milton Hershey School Education Association (MHEA). Part-time employees are eligible for a retirement savings plan, an employee assistance program (EAP), free lunches when on duty, and Hershey area discounts. This position offers a competitive salary range ($28.40 - $45.39 per hour) commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in psychology or a related field required.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a professional behavior management or mental health setting with adolescents.

  • Experience supporting diverse adolescents, including students from low-income families, preferred.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and collaborate with adolescents and adults.

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) tools and other systems.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Willingness to actively engage with students beyond the scope of assigned duties, as needed.

  • High degree of integrity and professionalism; MHS staff serve as role models for students.
