Job description

About the Team
The Finance & Strategy team operates at the analytical core of Global Banking & Markets, serving as a trusted partner to divisional leadership in shaping performance, advancing strategic priorities, and elevating the analytical rigor and precision with which the Division measures and manages its performance. Our mandate spans revenue and expense analytics, forecasting and business planning, compensation analytics, competitive intelligence, and the automation of reporting workflows - positioning the team as a key driver of data-informed decision-making at the most senior levels of the firm.
We bring together individuals with backgrounds across consulting, financial modeling, accounting, risk management, and technology & engineering. What unites us is a bias for ownership: individuals at every level are trusted to contribute to strategic initiatives, participate in key workstreams, and deliver analyses that inform decisions across the Division.
Our edge is increasingly defined by how effectively we pair financial judgment with modern data tooling and AI-assisted workflows. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable examining a P&L as they are building an automated pipeline or leveraging an LLM to accelerate analysis.
What You'll Do
  • Financial Analytics - Build and maintain performance analytics and periodic reporting on divisional revenue, expenses, and shareholder returns. Design executive-grade dashboards that serve as the single source of truth for decision-making.
  • Financial Process Modernization - Proactively identify operational inefficiencies and partner with cross-functional teams to automate and streamline them - increasingly leveraging AI tooling and solutions to eliminate manual effort.
  • Business Planning & Forecasting - Develop and track new initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional partners to support the execution of multi-year and intra-year revenue and expense budgeting and forecasting.
  • Competitive Intelligence - The Finance & Strategy team owns investment banking and trading competitive analytics for the GBM division. Deliver sophisticated benchmarking and market-share analysis of peer performance across FICC, Equities, and Banking to inform strategic positioning.
  • Expense Management - Act as a steward of the Division's cost base, partnering on efficiency projects and delivering transparent, accurate reporting.
  • Key Performance Indicator Tracking & Analysis - Track, analyze, and manage progress toward firmwide goals, with a focus on FICC & Equities, in close partnership with cross-divisional stakeholders.

What We're Looking For
Foundations
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or engineering
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience in finance, strategy, consulting, or analytics (preferred)
  • Genuine interest in financial markets and financial analytics, with the intellectual curiosity to go deeper

Core Analytical & Technical Toolkit
  • Strong foundational Excel skills and polished PowerPoint for executive storytelling
  • BI & dashboarding familiarity - Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView (preferred) - with an eye for design and clarity
  • Data preparation & automation - comfort with SQL for querying large, complex datasets is preferred but not required
  • Working proficiency in Python (pandas, data wrangling, automation) is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with a modern development environment such as VS Code, and version control (Git), is highly valued

AI Fluency
  • Hands-on experience applying generative AI and LLM-based tools (e.g., Copilot-style assistants, enterprise chat tools) to accelerate analysis, automate reporting, and enhance productivity
  • Strong prompt engineering instincts and sound judgment on where AI adds value - and where human review remains essential
  • Enthusiasm for piloting emerging tools to improve personal and team productivity

Mindset & Communication
  • Exceptional analytical rigor and a natural aptitude for working with large, ambiguous datasets
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the presence to interact credibly with senior management and global stakeholders
  • Ability to articulate financial results clearly and translate complex analysis into confident, data-driven recommendations
  • A problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments - with uncompromising accuracy and attention to detail

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, NY, United States-based position is $85000-$110000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
Benefits
Goldman Sachs is committed to providing our people with valuable and competitive benefits and wellness offerings, as it is a core part of providing a strong overall employee experience.
