The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) is nearly 500,000 square feet and has been a central hub of campus life for more than 100 years. Every day, thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests gather at the IMU to dine, study, attend events, and connect with the IU community.
Job Summary The IMU Custodial team plays a vital role in keeping this iconic space welcoming, clean, and functional. Join our team and help keep the heart of campus running smoothly!
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Ensures IMU spaces are clean, organized, and inviting.
- Performs general and deep cleaning tasks, including floors, carpets, windows, and walls.
- Handles light maintenance duties and report needed repairs.
- Keeps restrooms stocked and sanitized.
- Collects and sorts recyclables.
- Polishes furniture and fixtures for a welcoming environment.
- Moves and relocates furniture as needed.
- Replaces lightbulbs and perform minor fixes.
- Prepares and applies cleaning solutions as required.
- Maintains safe and orderly custodial supply areas.
- Secures and monitor buildings by locking/unlocking doors.
- Performs seasonal duties, including snow removal and sidewalk clearing.
Qualifications EDUCATION
Required- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred- Experience in warehouse or stocking experience
- Expereince in Hospitality
- Expeience in maintenance or landscaping
SKILLS
Required- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and workplace protocols
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Basic computer skills for work-related tasks
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
Working Conditions / Demands This role requires both the ability to remain in a stationary position and the ability to move throughout the workplace for extended periods. It involves effective communication, operating machinery, tools, and controls, as well as ascending and descending ladders and stairs. The position also requires working in low-level positions, detecting various chemicals or gases, accessing rooftops, and maneuvering through tight spaces for inspections. Additionally, the role involves moving and transferring equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without accommodation.

Work Location Bloomington, Indiana
This is an in-person position
Advertised Salary $13.10 per hour
Work-study preferred
Work Hours Monday and Tuesday, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
Weekends 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Up to 29 hours per week, with flexibility scheduling based on availability and department needs.
