Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Entry Level Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer to join the East Region Dams Team. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region.  The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities.  This position will report to the AECOM office in the Germantown, Maryland.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical support to dam project managers, including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.  Includes:
    • Planning, implementing, and overseeing geotechnical subsurface exploration programs including assigning laboratory testing with assistance.
    • Performing dam analysis and design such as material characterization, seepage, slope stability, settlement and filter compatibility analyses for dams.
    • Preparing geotechnical reports, boring logs, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.
    • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to internal project team.
    • Conducting field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and dam construction oversight
  • Progression toward greater responsibility, including task and project management and certification as a professional engineer.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of Dam Safety Engineering projects.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed. 
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with demonstrated coursework in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or ability to complete within 6 months of initial hire.
  • Ability and desire to travel to project sites, both local and remote. Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Interest in dams and other hydraulic structures.
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in relevant geotechnical engineering software programs such as GeoStudio and gINT.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience with dams or other hydraulic structures.
  • Relevant experience with field subsurface investigations and/or laboratory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
