Job description

Position: School Health Assistant - Part Time
Supervisor: Coordinator of Health Services and School Nurse at assigned site
General Job Description: To function as an assistant to the School Nurse in completing some or all of the following: clerical tasks, serving as receptionist, medical assistant, offering first aid, medication administration, and coordinating activities within the school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Initiate, maintain, and update student medical and health records and databases on an on-going basis as directed by the School Nurse at assigned site.
Maintain and update student immunization records.

Provide basic first aid and emergency care to ill and injured students as directed by the school Nurse.
Assist and participate in health screening programs.
Medication administration.

6. Maintain student sign in logs for all visits to the health room. 7. Perform and document accurate vital signs on students seen in the health room. 8. Assist in maintaining a clean and healthful environment at assigned site. 9. Works with assigned School Nurse in a team approach. 10. Responds constructively to supervision. 11. Relates positively to students, parents, and colleagues. 12. Attends staff meetings as requested by the Coordinator of Health Services. 13. Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

High school diploma
2. Current CPR certification 3.          Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find
appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, crawling, kneeling, ability to run, and moving light furniture may be required.
Equipment/Material Handled:                                               
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate equipment including laptop computers, cellular phones, vision and hearing equipment, basic vital signs equipment, and other equipment as needed for emergency response.
