Parttime Job information

What is a parttime job?

Part-time jobs are positions that require employees to work fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, typically less than 35-40 hours per week. These jobs often offer flexible working hours and can be ideal for students, parents, or anyone seeking supplemental income. Common part-time roles include retail associate, food service worker, receptionist, and tutor. Benefits and job duties can vary widely depending on the employer and industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a parttime job, and why are they important?

To thrive in a part-time job, you generally need reliability, time management, and basic qualifications relevant to the specific industry, such as a high school diploma or customer service experience. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, or other role-specific tools may be required depending on the job. Strong communication, flexibility, and a positive attitude help you adapt to varying schedules and tasks, making you a valuable team member. These skills ensure you can meet employer expectations efficiently while balancing work with other commitments.

What are common challenges faced in parttime jobs, and how can I overcome them?

One common challenge in part-time jobs is balancing work with other commitments such as studies, family, or another job. To overcome this, it's important to have clear communication with your employer about your availability and to manage your schedule effectively. Additionally, part-time roles may offer less training or fewer advancement opportunities, so proactively seeking feedback and expressing interest in additional responsibilities can help you grow professionally. Building strong relationships with your coworkers can also make it easier to swap shifts or ask for support when needed.

Welcome to Newark Day Nursery and Children's Center! We are a nonprofit childcare center dedicated to providing the highest quality early childhood and school-age services to educate, enrich and inspire children and youth from culturally and economically diverse families.
We are looking for part-time teachers to care for and educate children in our youngest classrooms (ages 6 weeks - 5 years). This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide a loving, nurturing, and safe environment for little minds to learn and grow. As a part-time teacher, you will be tasked with implementing age-appropriate activities to support their development.

  • Communicating with parents and guardians about children’s activities, behavior, and developmental milestones
  • Responding appropriately to the needs of toddlers with patience and kindness
  • Providing a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play
  • Organizing and leading activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling
  • Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed, such as wiping down surfaces and disinfecting toys
  • Assisting with potty training and changing diapers, as needed
As a part-time teacher, you will possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • DEEDS qualification, or willing to obtain within the 30 days of hire
  • CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire

  • Previous experience working with children is a plus!
We are committed to providing our teaching staff with continuous professional development opportunities and a supportive community that values collaboration and growth. Join us in making a lasting impact on the lives of young children and become a cherished part of our educational family. If you’re energetic, playful, and think you'd be a great fit, we’d love to meet you!
