Job description

About the Position

Spend your days in our farmstand, café, and at our booth at local farmers' markets, connecting community members and visitors with the organic food and plants we grow, and with the broader local food system we're proud to be part of!

Farmstand Crew members help create the welcoming atmosphere Cedar Circle is known for-assisting customers, sharing information about our organic produce and prepared foods, and helping keep the farmstand running smoothly during our busiest months.

If you enjoy working with people, are service-minded, and have an interest in food, cooking, and local, organic agriculture, we would love to hear from you!

Responsibilities

This person will work primarily in the farmstand, and will attend weekly farmers' markets on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

General duties include:

  • Ringing up customers and processing payments
  • Providing exceptional service to our community; greeting guests, making them feel welcome, and making genuine connections
  • Answering questions about the products we sell, our growing practices, CSA, education programs, and farm policies. Directing guests to other departments or administrative staff to get their questions answered in a timely manner
  • Maintaining a clean and presentable workspace
  • Following safety protocols
  • Working collectively and collaboratively with fellow farmstand crew members and the rest of the Cedar Circle team

Farmstand duties include:

  • Setting up, breaking down, and restocking produce displays; culling to ensure we have top quality produce on display; moving large amounts of produce from building to building
  • Helping guests locate items
  • Receiving and stocking merchandise
  • Assisting guests with CSA signups, including filling out CSA paperwork and taking payments. Setting up and adding value to CSA Cards, with the help of Leads and the Farm Retail Manager
  • Assisting with answering phones, transferring calls, and distributing messages

Farmers' Market duties include:

  • Representing Cedar Circle Farm & Education Center at the Lebanon and Norwich Farmers' Markets
  • With one other staff member, loading the market van and driving to market
  • Setting up, breaking down, and restocking produce displays; culling to ensure we have top quality produce on display
  • Closing out the register at the end of the shift

There are opportunities to train as a barista and work in the Hello Café if interested.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and use a point-of-sale system to ring up purchases and process different forms of payment
  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail when stocking merchandise, maintaining displays, and completing routine tasks
  • Interest in learning about farm products, produce varieties, and prepared foods in order to ring up purchases, help customers locate items, and answer common questions
  • Comfort following established procedures for food handling, café service, and workplace safety (training provided)
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to lift and carry produce crates and other items (up to ~40 lbs), move between buildings, and remain on your feet for extended periods

Helpful but not required:

  • Experience using a cash register or point-of-sale system
  • Familiarity with produce, cooking ingredients, gardening, or agriculture

Availability

This position is part-time, a minimum of 20 hours per week (3+ days), Thursdays to Sundays. Hours are agreed upon at hire and remain consistent week to week. The ability to work weekends day is required.

Compensation

This is a seasonal position, part-time through October, with the potential for limited hours in November and December. The Full-Season Farmstand Crew position is hourly with benefits including paid personal leave, fresh produce, a 20% discount at our farmstand and cafe, a 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% employer safe harbor match, and access to an employee assistance program. Salary is $15-17/hr depending on work experience.

Application Instructions

To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume through our online employment application.
