The Studio for High-Performance Design and Construction is a non-profit organization committed to advancing sustainable, energy-efficient, and high-performance building practices through a combination of education, workforce development, and professional community building for people invested in addressing climate change through our built environment. Studio HPDC's impact model focuses on development of new approaches to training, certification, and career pathways in high-performance building with a vision of widely distributing learning and professional opportunities to make careers in sustainable building trades accessible at the scale needed to decarbonize our homes, schools, businesses and communities.
The Program Manager Role
The Program Manager will have day-to-day responsibility for the delivery of Studio HPDC's High-Performance Building courses, targeting mid-career builders in Eastern Massachusetts. High-Performance Building for Carpenters is Studio HPDC"s "flagship" course, targeting experienced builders and carpenters, and at the heart of Studio HPDC's mission and values. In January 2026, Studio HPDC began additional course development work to increase its ability to recruit and retain facilitators, offer additional courses, and reach larger numbers of mid-career builders. The Program Manager will be deeply involved in the course development work and will ultimately be responsible for delivering the materials and processes developed.
This role requires a unique combination of skills including program management, data analysis, team-building and facilitation skills, creativity, cultural competency, some technical expertise in sustainable building practices, and the ability to manage comprehensive educational programs that align with the organization's mission and goals.
The Program Manager reports to the Executive Director. This is a 30-hours per week, part-time position. This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory responsibilities, with the possible exception of short-term internship roles as approved by the Executive Director.

Program Delivery: High-Performance Building Courses
  • Support Studio HPDC marketing efforts for the High-Performance Building courses, including: create social media posts and brochures using Studio HPDC's branding and marketing kit, use of social media to identify new builder relationships
  • Manage the pipeline of course participant leads and relationships to encourage new and repeat enrollment in Studio HPDC programs
  • Create summary materials describing Studio HPDC's courses and their impact for a wide range of audiences including potential participants, building business owners, potential sponsors, and volunteers
  • Manage the data and logistics of participants and facilitators in each course, including payments, participant and facilitator info, completion data, and support for obtaining tuition grants
  • Organize and deliver facilitator preparation and debrief sessions, and orientation for guest professionals
  • For each training session, prepare the training site, including: table and chairs, printed materials, projector and slides, mock-up assembly materials and tools, plans, food and beverages
  • Ensure course materials are up-to-date, in stock, organized, and where appropriate able to be shared with Studio HPDC partners and funders
  • Capture and track feedback on the course, participant learning outcomes, and outreach efforts, summarizing data for both internal and external audiences
  • Support grant writing and fundraising campaigns related to the course and its future expansion

Represent Studio HPDC with External Stakeholders
  • Engage and build inclusive relationships with diverse audiences, including architects, engineers, contractors, facility managers, technical educators, policymakers, learning scientists, donors, and community members to increase literacy for high performance building practices.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and community outreach activities related to high-performance building education
  • Participate in, and contribute to, building science community discussions hosted by Studio HPDC or its close partners

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in developing and delivering educational programs, preferably in the field of sustainable building, energy efficiency, or environmental sustainability. Experience with instructional design and adult learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and drive them to successful completion: developing and executing on workplans, delivering complex project activities on a timeline and budget
  • Familiarity and some direct experience with high-performance building practices, including energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, sustainable materials, and green building certifications.
  • Comfort and skill operating in a small, growing organization where systems and processes are being built as we deliver the work.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise with cultural competency: understanding the diverse cultural backgrounds, histories, and experiences of students in social justice neighborhoods, which may include various racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to promoting high-performance building practices through education and capacity-building.
  • Skilled at use of Google Suite required. Use of Canva, Squarespace, social media platforms a plus.
