Job description

Statement of Primary Purpose
The primary role of the tutor is to support student learning. Tutors must have excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse students, as well as have a desire to see students succeed. Tutors may be asked to work with both individuals and groups. Tutoring sessions may be scheduled and conducted both online and in person, and tutors need to be flexible to both environments. Tutoring sessions will focus on subject matter where the tutor has demonstrated academic success. Tutors may set a flexible schedule, however the number of hours assigned will be contingent on available hours matching student needs. Tutors may be stationed at the Jackson or Macon campus.

Part-time, non-exempt staff

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Provide appointment-based tutoring to individuals and/or small groups, in subjects such as Accounting, Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Math, Physics, and Spanish.
Monitor students' attendance and progress at tutoring sessions
Discuss unsatisfactory progress in sessions and identify when students may benefit from additional college resources
Support and encourage independent learning
Coordinate tutoring meetings and schedules
Submit paperwork in a timely manner (reports and timesheets).
Implement skills-based tutoring, which focuses on developing student's critical thinking.
Maintain consistent, professional contact with students, Learning Assistance Director, and other faculty members.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Attend professional development and training to earn CRLA Level I credential by the end of first semester of employment and CRLA level II by the end of second semester of employment.

AA degree or higher or current enrollment at a College or University

Pay Scale
$16.50 per hour

This position description covers the most essential functions and duties associated with this position. Other duties may be assigned by the President or appropriate supervisory personnel. The College reserves the right to alter duties, responsibilities, conditions, working hours, and job title as necessary.
