St. Patrick Catholic School in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking an exceptional individual for the following position: Guidance Teacher.

Ministerial Character:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities:

The guidance teacher helps students develop personal and academic skills, collaborates with teachers and parents, and integrates Gospel values into student support. This position reports directly to the school principal. 

Key Responsibilities

• As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
• Classroom Guidance: Teach developmental lessons on topics such as anti-bullying, decision-making, and peer relations.
• Student Guidance: Provide short-term individual and small group guidance for topics like conflict resolution, stress management, social skills, and transitions. 
• Spiritual & Moral Growth: Support the religious mission of the school by helping students develop compassion, Christian virtues, and respect for others.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in psychology, school counseling, or social work
• 12 credit hours in education are required or the appropriate state certification
• Valid Texas Driver's License required
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Special Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction in their area of expertise
• Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, assessment strategies, and motivational strategies that promote authentic student engagement
• Planning and organization skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills with students and adults
• Ability to effectively embed available technology into daily lesson plans

Additional Requirements:

• Must submit to required pre-employment screening, including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record check (MVR), and drug screening
• Complete certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
• Requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures

Mental/Physical Demands:

• Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
• Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
• Maintain confidentiality
