About the team

For this Athletic Coaching position, you'll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. 95% of The Class of 2026 received acceptances into 52 unique colleges and universities and earned nearly $4.3M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.

What you'll do

As a head coach or assistant coach, you'll be directly responsible for the supervision of all athletes under their purview to include travel to practices and games, the practices and games themselves, and ensuring athletes are supervised until released to parents or as designated. Freire Charter Wilmington opened its doors to a brand new athletic facility in the Spring of 2024 and it's not just your average gym – it's equipped with everything from a regulation basketball/volleyball court to a fitness room, a yoga studio, and more!

Responsibilities
  • Attend and facilitate all pre and post season practices and enforce game/league rules and regulations
  • Recruit students to participate
  • Communicate roster changes and program needs to the Athletic Director
  • Email school staff regarding student attendance/dismissals due to participation in sports and overall competition updates.
  • Foster an inclusive, healthy, and competitive team culture
  • Train student managers and leaders in all responsibilities related to team needs
  • Communicate effectively with all parents regarding student athletes

Pay and benefits

Head coaches are compensated $3,000 and assistant coaches are compensated $2,000 per season depending on the sport. This is a part time position and is not benefits eligible.
