Job description

Suffolk University Law School seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Legal Writing for Graduate Students, a 2-credit course offered as part of its LL.M. program, during the Fall 2026 semester.
This course is designed for foreign-trained graduate students and provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of American legal writing. Students learn how to research legal authorities, analyze legal issues using those authorities, and communicate their analysis effectively in writing consistent with U.S. legal professional standards. Candidates must be comfortable teaching how to use the Bluebook. The course may be used to fulfill both the New York State Bar Examination legal writing requirement and Suffolk LL.M. Legal Writing requirements.
Teaching Schedule
  • One evening per week at 8:00-9:50 PM
  • Scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (specific day to be determined)

Responsibilities
  • Teach and deliver course content for one section of Legal Writing for Graduate Students
  • Design and assess written assignments focused on legal analysis and writing
  • Provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback on student work
  • Support the academic development of international graduate students
  • Maintain regular communication with students and hold appropriate office hours
  • Comply with Law School and University policies

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Demonstrated strong legal research and writing skills
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably with graduate-level or international students
  • Experience working with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching legal writing courses
  • Familiarity with LL.M. programs or foreign-trained law students
  • Relevant legal practice experience involving substantial writing and analysis
