What is a part time weeknight?

A Part Time Weeknight job typically involves working evening shifts on weekdays, usually after standard business hours. Common positions include retail, customer service, hospitality, and remote support roles. Hours and shift lengths may vary by employer.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for someone working in a part time weeknight position?

You may be expected to work independently or in a smaller team, handling responsibilities with limited supervision. Flexibility and reliability are especially valued, as weeknight shifts often require adaptability to changing customer volumes or last-minute shift adjustments. Many employers appreciate staff who communicate well and help ensure a smooth handoff between daytime and nighttime operations. This experience can also prepare you for future advancement or a transition to full-time positions as openings arise.

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking tech-savvy, customer-focused Member Service Representatives to support both our Summit and Berkeley Heights branches. In this highly visible, member-facing role, you will be the welcoming face of the Y, creating a positive and supportive experience for every person who walks through our doors.

As a Member Service Representative, you will help members check in, register for programs, and access information about everything from swim lessons to wellness classes. You will work in a fast-paced, people-centered environment where every interaction matters.

A warm, friendly presence, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for helping others are essential to success in this role.

You Might Be the Right Candidate if you:

  • Believe in teamwork and live the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Are flexible and available to work at both Summit and Berkeley Heights branches
  • Can work a schedule that includes either one weekend shift and one weeknight shift, or two weekend shifts

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist members and guests in a friendly, professional manner
  • Open the facility and ensure readiness for daily operations
  • Process membership check-ins, registrations, and payments accurately
  • Maintain knowledge of YMCA programs, services, and policies
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support membership engagement and sales
  • Assist with membership changes and general inquiries
  • Support facility cleanliness and safety procedures

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $17.50 to $19.00 per hour, based on experience.

Various shifts are currently available on weekday evenings and weekends.

Member Service staff are required to be scheduled for at least two shifts per week. These must include at least one weekend shift, but may include two weekend shifts if needed and desired. Staff may have the opportunity to work up to 25 hours per week, based on available shifts.

The Summit Area YMCA offers generous employee benefits. Part-time benefits include a free YMCA membership, discounts on Y family membership, continued professional training and development courses, and an 12% contribution to the YMCA retirement plan upon eligibility.

At the Summit Area YMCA, we are committed to equal opportunity employment regardless of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. Our main purpose is to strengthen community. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone can reach their full potential and we strive to live our cause with purpose every day.
