Part-Time Weekend Overnight Emergency Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville-part of the Innovetive Petcare network-is seeking exceptional Emergency Veterinary Technicians to join our ER team on a mid/swing shift. This opportunity is ideal for experienced professionals who want to work in a true emergency setting, sharpen advanced technical skills, and collaborate with specialty and ICU teams.

Key Responsibilities - Emergency Medicine
  • Assist with emergency triage, stabilization, and urgent interventions
  • Perform rapid patient assessments and initiate treatment protocols
  • Support emergency procedures including CPR, oxygen therapy, and shock management
  • Perform technical procedures including:
    • IV catheter placement
    • Blood draws and point-of-care diagnostics
    • Radiographs
    • Anesthesia induction and monitoring
  • Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ, and oral routes
  • Assist with wound care, splinting, and emergency surgical prep
  • Monitor ER patients throughout treatment and recovery
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care in high-stress situations
  • Support veterinarians with client updates and discharge education
  • Maintain detailed, accurate medical records
  • Ensure continuity of care during patient transfers to ICU or specialty services
  • Work closely with ER doctors, ICU, and specialty teams
  • Participate in case discussions and handoffs
  • Contribute to a positive, solution-oriented ER culture

• What We're Looking For:
    • 2+ years of experience in Emergency, ICU, or high-volume General Practice
    • Strong technical and nursing skills in fast-paced environments
    • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
    • Commitment to patient advocacy and gold-standard care
    • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT)
    • Emergency or Specialty hospital experience
    • Interest in pursuing advanced training, licensure, or VTS (ECC)
    • Proficiency in emergency triage, stabilization, and monitoring
    • Strong anesthesia and procedural support skills
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize in dynamic ER settings
    • Solid understanding of emergency pharmacology and protocols
    • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
    • Emotional resilience and adaptability in urgent care situations
