Job description

Part-Time Bus Driver

We are seeking a responsible and customer-focused Part-Time Bus Driver to join our senior resident transportation team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working independently and providing safe, reliable service to passengers. If you have a passion for driving and excellent interpersonal skills, we encourage you to apply.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work involves the daily operation of the F.L.E.R.T., disabled, and Senior Citizen Buses. Must function with a minimum of supervision and physically assist passengers as necessary
  • Transports Senior Citizens, disabled persons and other passengers within the boundaries of the City of Florissant
  • Shall cautiously drive one or more types of automotive bus equipment
  • Shall assist passengers as necessary entering and exiting the bus
  • Shall perform daily driver maintenance on buses
  • Shall physically load and unload groceries and other materials from the bus and carry them up and down stairs
  • Keeps and maintains First Aid kits
  • Provides general upkeep of buses and all pertinent equipment
  • Maintains daily logs accurately, regarding the necessary safety checks for buses and their activities
  • Shall maintain a daily record of passenger pickups and deliveries
  • Shall coordinate the daily door-to-door pick-up scheduled with appointments made by phone
  • Coordinates with Senior Office in all emergency scenarios
  • Provides assistance with passengers, regarding usage of the buses
  • Promotes harmony and good will among passengers and with City of Florissant
  • This is a safety sensitive position
  • Performs other duties as directed

Requirements

This position requires sitting for long periods of time, bending, twisting and helping passengers, lift and move up to 25 lbs., seeing, hearing and talking.

Education and Experience

  • The person in this position must have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations is vital for this position
  • Proven experience driving buses or large vehicles preferred
  • Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in various situations
  • Good physical condition to assist with boarding and disembarking passengers
  • Flexibility to work part-time hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations

Licenses and Certifications

  • A valid Class C Commercial Driver's License with an endorsement for Passenger/Bus is required
  • Being CPR certified is preferred.
