About U1 Sports

U1 Sports is a youth sports organization dedicated to helping young people thrive through athletics, academic enrichment, and engaging after-school programming. Through partnerships with schools and communities, we create experiences that help students build Confidence, Character, and Community.

We're seeking energetic, dependable, and caring Program Leaders to help create an exceptional after-school experience for elementary and middle school students.

Position Summary

The Program Leader serves as the primary leader and point person for an assigned age group within the U1 Enrich to 6 After-School Program.

Program Leaders remain with their group throughout the afternoon, building strong relationships with students, maintaining routines and expectations, supporting transitions, and helping students successfully participate in sports, academics, Discovery Labs, and other enrichment activities.

This position is ideal for college students, aspiring educators, paraprofessionals, youth development professionals, and individuals who enjoy working directly with children.

Key Responsibilities

Group Leadership & Student Engagement

  • Serve as the primary leader for an assigned student group.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with students.
  • Maintain consistent routines, expectations, and behavior standards.
  • Promote teamwork, respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
  • Ensure students are actively engaged and appropriately supervised throughout the afternoon.
  • Support students with varying needs, personalities, and learning styles.

Daily Program Operations

  • Lead students through arrival, transitions, snack, activities, and dismissal.
  • Escort students safely between program spaces.
  • Assist Sports Coaches, Academic Success Coaches, and specialty instructors during programming.
  • Help prepare and organize activity spaces and materials.
  • Maintain accurate awareness of assigned students throughout the program day.
  • Support a safe, organized, and welcoming program environment.

Academic & Technology Support

  • Assist students with homework and independent learning when needed.
  • Support students using iPads, educational applications, and web-based learning platforms.
  • Be comfortable learning and navigating educational technology used by the program.
  • Troubleshoot basic technology issues and help students use devices responsibly.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the Program Director and other program staff.
  • Communicate student concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues promptly.
  • Maintain professional and positive communication with families during arrival and dismissal.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Follow all U1 Sports and school safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school students.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, organized, and comfortable managing groups of children.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using tablets, computers, and web-based platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced after-school environment.
  • Passion for working with and mentoring young people.

Preferred

  • Current college student or Bachelor's degree in Education, Physical Education, Psychology, Social Work, Recreation, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • Experience in after-school programs, summer camps, schools, recreation programs, or youth organizations.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Schedule

  • Part-Time
  • Monday-Friday
  • Approximately 3:00 PM-6:00 PM
  • Approximately 10-15 hours per week during the school year

Additional daytime hours may be available through U1 Sports school-based programs for candidates interested in building a larger Monday-Friday work schedule.

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
