Job description

WHITE MOUNTAINS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
FACILITIES SERVICES ASSISTANT
PART-TIME, $19.33-$19.98/HOUR +.90/HOUR SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs skilled work in the routine, general, and preventative custodial, grounds, and/or building maintenance and assists in coordinating the work activities of staff engaged in performing similar duties. This position reports to the Facilities Manager at White Mountains Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, classrooms, labs, hallways, and restrooms. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning floors, windows, and furniture, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors, and performing other custodial duties as required.
  • Assigns and checks work of assigned work study student worker(s) for conformance to both maintenance and safety standards.
  • Removes and disposes of trash, observing state sanitation regulations where applicable.
  • Assists with set-up and break-down of rooms for functions as needed, and with moving/relocating furniture.
  • Sweeps, cleans, salts, clears snow and/or ice from assigned entrance areas.
  • Uses college vehicles to make deliveries and pick up supplies.
  • Provides transportation for specific individuals affiliated with the college as requested.
  • Makes minor repairs and completes routine maintenance on equipment, furniture, and buildings, notifying supervisor when major breakdowns occur. Assists in minor renovations such as light carpentry, wallpapering, and painting. Checks on condition of heating and plumbing systems within buildings.
  • Assists with maintenance projects as needed.
  • Prepares orders for supervisor to maintain supplies.
  • Reports safety issues and concerns as observed throughout the campus to supervisor and/or college safety and security supervisor.
  • Participates in professional development activities related to safety and risk management as assigned.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.
Experience: Two years' experience in custodial, grounds-keeping, or light maintenance work with equipment operation and maintenance and some supervisory or project coordination experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
License/Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires medium work, including continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination in operating machines or equipment.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to supervise employees. Ability to keep records and make schedules. Working knowledge of heating and plumbing systems. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates and other employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
