What is a part time VMware job?

Part-time VMware jobs involve working with VMware virtualization software on a reduced-hour schedule, rather than full-time. These roles may include system administration, IT support, cloud management, or consulting, and typically focus on managing virtual machines, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining virtual infrastructure. Part-time positions are ideal for those seeking flexibility while still using their VMware skills to support an organization’s IT environment.

What are common challenges faced by part time VMware administrators, and how can they manage their workload?

Part-time VMware administrators often face the challenge of balancing critical system maintenance with limited working hours. They must prioritize urgent tasks like patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting while ensuring ongoing projects remain on track. Effective time management and clear communication with full-time team members are key to staying aligned on responsibilities and system status. Utilizing automation tools and thorough documentation can also help manage workloads efficiently and reduce the risk of missed issues.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time VMware specialist?

To thrive as a Part-Time VMware Specialist, you need a solid understanding of virtualization concepts, VMware vSphere management, and relevant IT certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP). Proficiency with VMware tools, including vCenter, ESXi, and related monitoring or backup solutions, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and time management skills help distinguish top performers in this flexible role. These skills ensure efficient deployment and maintenance of virtual infrastructure, minimizing downtime and supporting organizational IT goals.

Linux and Ansible Automation Engineer
The Opportunity:
We're looking for a Linux engineer and automation specialist to help us design, deploy, and grow automated solutions for an enterprise environment that is actively modernizing.
As a Linux and Ansible Automation Engineer on our project, you'll be on the ground floor of building something meaningful by developing automation frameworks, establishing best practices, and laying the foundation for scalable infrastructure in a mission-critical environment. You'll provide the customer with insight into their Linux environments through automated monitoring, system hardening, configuration management, and performance optimization. You'll work closely with mission partners and various stakeholders to understand their current pain points and translate them into automation solutions that reduce manual effort and operational risk. Your technical expertise will be vital as you identify where automation can make the biggest immediate impact while keeping an eye on long-term architecture. You'll help your team better understand what's possible by turning early wins into repeatable methodologies and communicating their value to leadership.
We focus on growing as a team, so you'll share your expertise through leadership and mentoring as you help others embrace a culture of automation. As a technical leader, you'll have a real voice in how this capability evolves, including identifying new opportunities to expand coverage and mature the program as your customers' needs grow. This position is located in Reston, Virginia.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience administering Linux-based environments such as RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Experience managing configuration at scale using Ansible, including enforcing consistent system state across large inventories, detecting and correcting configuration drift, and writing idempotent playbooks
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Salt, Puppet, or Chef
  • Experience with Bash, Python, or PowerShell
  • Experience managing systems within U.S. federal government or DoD enterprise IT environments, including security compliance and vulnerability management frameworks such as STIG, RMF, or NIST
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Associate's degree and 5+ years of experience supporting IT projects and activities, Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience supporting IT projects and activities, or Master's degree and 1+ years of experience supporting IT projects and activities
  • Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 IAT Level III Certification such as SecurityX, formerly CASP+, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH, or CCSP certification within 30 days of start date
  • Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 Cybersecurity Service Provider - Infrastructure Support Certification (CSSP-IS), including CEH, CySA+, GICSP, SSCP, CHFI, CFR, Cloud+, or CND Certification, within 30 days of start date

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with VMware vSphere administration and managing virtual machine
  • Experience in Kubernetes, container platform operations, cluster lifecycle management, workload orchestration
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience with NetApp storage solutions and designing or maintaining enterprise backup and recovery solutions
  • Knowledge of version control concepts and Git

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
