Events Security

JOB TITLE: Community Recreation Events Security

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt Part Time

DEPARTMENT: Community Recreation and Events

SUPERVISOR: Community Recreation and Events Director, Deputy Director, and direct Supervisor

SALARY: $15.00 to $18.50 per Hour

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Events Security personnel are the front-line people for any safety or security incident that occurs in a City venue.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To supervise main entrances and access points, ensuring only authorized personnel may enter city owned and operated facilities.
  • To protect performers, working crew, special guests, and fans throughout each venue.
  • To protect the venue from theft and vandalism.
  • Guard against theft, vandalism, and acts of aggression to maintain security of the premises.
  • To provide regular, high-profile, internal, and external patrols of the premises to prevent and detect any signs of intrusion and ensure the security doors, windows, and gates.
  • To have thorough knowledge of city venues and crowd management/control protocol. Must be able to assist team and respond to emergencies/incidents effectively.
  • To convey a smart, well-groomed appearance in approved event uniform, provide a first-class customer service and display high levels of vigilance throughout a shift.
  • To be aware of, report, and respond to any incidents or suspicious activities. Log incidents through venue log system.
  • Welcome and assist visitors/contractors. This may include completing security screenings at intake locations and working with venue team to resolve conflicts on request.
  • Assist venue team in securing and providing access to areas of the venue for the general public and/or performers team.
  • To ensure that a thorough venue lockdown patrol is carried out on a show-by-show basis including area/door alarms. A nightly lock up sheet must be completed to record anything of relevance.
  • To maintain a reasonable level of fitness to perform duties including, responding to activated intruder alarms, knowing how to handle threatening situations, apprehending, and warning persons of venue rule violations and the eviction of violators from premises, using proper techniques.
  • Be able to assist at both indoor and outdoor events in all weather conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • English usage, proficient and accurate writing, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Customer service practices and positive public relations.
  • Pertinent state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Work in a both fast and slow-paced environments while maintaining attention on the objectives of your position.
  • To operate gate barriers and other access equipment such as bollards to hinder inappropriate access.
  • Carry out duties to help support the CRE mission statement.
  • Resolve disruptions to standard operations or performances.
  • Maintain focus when given an objective or specific set of duties.
  • Provide a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the public in a courteous, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Understand and carry-out oral and written directions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; deal with individuals in a compassionate and professional manner while providing safety and security.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; team oriented, but able to work independently as well.
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Required:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

  • Previous work as a security officer, police, fire, armed services, or stadium event security.
  • Previous experience of working in a general customer focused role is beneficial.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 30 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Working Environment:

Active environment at events (concerts, conferences, large gatherings). Will work both indoors and out. Weather conditions include high winds, rain, snow, thunderstorms, freezing temperatures, high temperatures, and exposure to direct sunlight. Environments may be loud based on event and assigned position.
