General Description
The Continuing Education & Workforce Development Department seeks a part-time instructor for our 45-hour CompTIA AI Fundamentals certification program. We are looking for an engaging, tech-savvy professional to teach adult learners, career changers, professionals, and job seekers through a blend of in-person sessions and interactive digital modules. You will facilitate learning, monitor progress, and prepare students to earn their official CompTIA AI Fundamentals Competency Certificate (CompCert).
Please note that this course covers the practical utilization, prompt engineering, and ethical integration of generative AI tools; advanced machine learning programming, deep data science algorithms, and complex mathematical coding are not part of this curriculum. The 45-hour schedule covers general AI literacy, advanced prompt design, output evaluation, and responsible AI guardrails. Additionally, the curriculum guides students through automating workplace tasks, utilizing AI for research and decision-making, and understanding the core mechanics behind automated AI agents and safety policies.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Provide CompTIA AI Fundamentals instruction to students utilizing the established curriculum provided by UCNJ Union College, of Union County, NJ.
• Teach material strictly from the approved CompTIA AI framework, following predefined course modules and delivering a comprehensive, 45-hour pacing syllabus focused on practical tool mastery over software engineering theory.
• Conduct lectures and practical training explicitly aligned with crafting effective prompts, refining machine outputs, and managing digital workflows.
• Provide quality, technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in both lecture and laboratory settings, utilizing live generative AI tool simulations and auto-graded performance labs.
• Instruct or co-instruct courses for non-credit programs across traditional lecture, hybrid, and fully online formats, with the ability to teach remote live.
• Monitor student performance on targeted knowledge checks, motivate active participation, and provide constructive feedback to ensure course standards and digital AI literacy objectives are met.
• Guide students through core AI workflows, moving seamlessly from basic text generation and data synthesis to multi-step task automation and workspace integration.
• Maintain meticulous and compliant institutional records, including daily attendance tracking, midterm reporting, and final grade entries.
• Assist with ongoing course and program evaluations to ensure the training environment effectively prepares non-technical learners for AI-enabled careers.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (Information Technology, Business Informatics, Computer Science, or Education) or advanced professional certification from an accredited college or university in a relevant technological discipline is required.
• Official, current CompTIA AI Fundamentals Competency Certificate or equivalent vendor-neutral AI credential preferred
Experience
• Requires a minimum of three (3) or more years of formal teaching experience, preferably instructing adult learners in vocational, corporate training, or non-credit continuing education environments.
• A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of practical, professional experience leveraging business technology, information systems, data analytics, or digital workflows where AI optimization tools are actively deployed.
• Advanced, demonstrable technical proficiency in prompting and administering primary generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or Google Gemini).
• Proven track record in adult education, workforce development, corporate training, or vocational instruction.
• Deep conceptual understanding that the instructional mandate is strictly focused on user applications, workplace efficiency, and human-in-the-loop validation rather than background coding.
• Practical familiarity with managing course shells within Learning Management Systems (specifically Canvas) and coordinating student activities inside simulated digital laboratory modules (e.g., CompTIA CertMaster Learn/Labs).
Competencies and Skills Required
• Skill in delivering complex technical material strictly according to predefined course outlines and mandatory certificate topics, focusing explicitly on applied operational literacy over theoretical computer science.
• Curious educator utilizing innovative educational methodologies with the ability to quickly adapt to rapidly changing software capabilities and digital learning management platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills to assist leadership with ongoing course evaluations and program improvements.
• Ability to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classrooms using remote-live tools, virtual hands-on exercise environments, video-based lessons, and learning management systems (LMS).
• Skill in evaluating student work, providing actionable feedback, answering software interface inquiries promptly, and motivating active classroom participation.
• Ability to multi-task in a busy academic environment and effectively pace AI interactive modules to ensure full course completion within the restricted 45-hour programmatic window.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position's duties are normally performed in a typical work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Salary
