The ideal candidate is comfortable taking ambiguous requirements and translating them into interfaces that adhere to the visual and interactive elements of digital products. The candidate is also highly self‐directed, collaborative, and comfortable working in an agile, iterative environment.

Essential Functions

Create Wireframes – Ideate on requirements to turn into interfaces within the current architecture.

Prototype Development — Create low-and high-fidelity prototypes to support usability testing, concept validation, and stakeholder alignment.

UI Evaluation — Provide expert feedback on existing product UI, identify visual and interaction inconsistencies and recommending improvements based upon UI best practices.

User Flow & Interaction Design — Translate research findings and requirements into intuitive workflows, wireframes, and interaction patterns.

Research Support — Partner with UX Researchers to prepare test materials, iterate designs based on findings, and refine prototypes between study rounds.

BRD Collaboration — Contribute design artifacts and workflow clarity to Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) to ensure alignment between design intent and technical planning.

Cross-Functional Alignment — Work with product, developers, and business teams to ensure design feasibility and consistency across initiatives.

Design System Adherence — Apply existing design system components and propose enhancements when needed.

Education & Experience

UX/UI Design Expertise — 3+ years of experience designing digital products with strong understanding of user-centered design.

Prototyping Tools — Experience in Figma is preferred, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar tools.

User-Centered Design — Experience working with UX Researchers and incorporating insights into design iterations.

Design System Contribution — Experience maintaining or evolving component libraries.

Internal Use Only

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Wireframing & Interaction Design — Ability to quickly produce clear, testable design concepts.

Heuristic Evaluation — Ability to assess UI quality using UX best practices and design principles.

Basic Visual Design — Ability to polish high-fidelity screens when needed.

508 Compliance & Accessibility Design – Knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 standards, with the ability to apply accessibility best practices (color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility) throughout the design process.

Communication Skills — Ability to present design rationale and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.

Self-Direction — Comfortable working independently in a part-time, flexible environment.

Information Architecture — Ability to support IA reviews and navigation improvements.

Knowledge of the Appian platform and its design system is a plus.
