Title: Director of Centralized Pharmacy Services

Position Summary

The Director, Centralized Pharmacy Services, serves as a key leader within Orlando Health's pharmacy enterprise, reporting to the Senior Director of Pharmacy Growth & PBM. This role oversees the strategy, operations, and continuous improvement of Orlando Health's centralized pharmacy services and system optimization, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant care. The Director is responsible for managing centralized operations across multiple service lines, including mail-order, central fill, home delivery, long-term care, central fulfillment, call center operations, and remote dispensing. The position works closely with pharmacy leadership and cross-functional teams to enhance operational performance, drive financial results, manage drug purchasing and inventory control for the ambulatory business, and advance organizational strategy.

What you will do

• Leads centralized pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant care.
• Leads the operations, implementation, and optimization of automation technologies (robotics, conveyor systems, automated dispensing systems).
• Leads staff of up to 25 team members in operations, people development, and talent development.
• Leads and oversees ambulatory drug purchasing strategies and buyers and maintains relationships with Orlando Health Supply Chain wholesalers and suppliers.
• Leads three distinct pharmacies within the Central Pharmacy Services Center (CPSC): a GPO Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy, and 340B Pharmacy. Works diligently and collaboratively across functions to ensure the optimization, collaboration, and compliance of these individual units.
• Optimizes automation and robotics for prescription fulfillment accuracy, efficiency, and scalability, including EPIC configuration for the CPSC.
• Develops and executes scalable operating models to support growth in script volume, new service lines, and geographic expansion.
• Plans and manages facility layout, including receiving/shipping areas, storage (including refrigeration/freezer), staff lockers, break areas, and corporate office space within the CPSC. This facility supports approximately 45% to 50% of the ambulatory pharmacy business.
• Develops, implements, and monitors standard operating procedures (SOPs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) for fill accuracy, turnaround time, inventory, and compliance.
• Oversees inventory controls, including ordering, receiving, storage, diversion prevention, and distribution of medications and supplies, and manages DSCSA compliance.
• Proactively engages with IT, revenue cycle management, and procurement regarding the impact of those services on the CPSC.
• Oversees Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) for the three pharmacies and works collaboratively with the RCM team.
• Works with analysts on business development, operational, financial, and dashboard initiatives that support the pharmacy leadership team.
• Develops contingency plans for supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, and facility emergencies.
• Engages with suppliers and logistics partners to ensure timely and secure delivery.
• Collaborates with IT and vendors to ensure system uptime, upgrades, and integration with clinical workflows.
• Oversees relationships with robotics and technology vendors, including SLA enforcement.
• Oversees financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost containment of the CPSC.
• Drives continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.
• Assesses, develops, and implements process improvement opportunities in partnership with stakeholders.
• Completes post-implementation reviews to ensure successful delivery and future enhancements.
• Utilizes data analytics and predictive modeling to optimize patient experience, revenue, and business outcomes.
• Measures and manages facility KPI’s, including but not limited to inventory turns, purchasing control, cost per script, fill accuracy, and turnaround time.
• Assists in identifying data anomalies and resolving root causes of such issues.
• Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Supports contractual obligations and strategic collaborations for all pharmacy business lines (e.g., home delivery, specialty pharmacy, home infusion).
• Acts as liaison for partnerships, joint ventures, and new business development.
• Participates in long-range planning and business development efforts.
• Leads department planning, submission, and implementation of capital requests.
• Provides leadership and oversight of managers, pharmacists, technicians, and support staff across centralized operations.
• Oversees recruitment, performance management, engagement, and succession planning.
• Presents business cases for optimization of pharmacy services.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Fosters a culture of excellence in patient experience, employee engagement, and operational efficiency.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates strong leadership, project management, and change management competencies.
• Applies strategic thinking, financial acumen, and vendor contracting expertise to support organizational objectives.
• Utilizes technical aptitude to support automation systems and software integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required. An associate degree and two (2) additional years of experience (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section) may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
• Seven (7) years of experience in health system pharmacy, or three (3) years of experience in technology management or centralized pharmacy services.
• Three (3) years of experience in people leadership and talent development.
• Demonstrated experience implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies preferred.
• Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Florida, preferred.
• Licensed Consultant Pharmacist in the State of FL, preferred.
• Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement certification preferred.
