Job Description
This is a part-time position. Applicants are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool.
This position transcribes in an approved speech to text format such as CART, TypeWell, Dragon Diction, or computerized note taking for students registered with the Disability Resource Center. This position requires the ability to effectively provide real-time and or conceptualized speech to text for spoken English. Situations can be but are not limed to; credit courses, workforce courses, student and engagement, and/or community functions sponsored by CSN. This position requires a TypeWell license, Licensed CART provider for the State of Nevada and/or extensive training in Dragon Dictions resulting in effective communication. This position requires the ability to make professional, autonomous decisions in a variety of educational situations. This position is required to follow all institutional policies and procedures. All software licenses and all licenses must be in current standing with the ability to verify.
Speech-to-Text Provider Responsibilities:
  • Accurately and effectively caption spoken content in real time.
  • Proficiently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot transcription software, computer systems, and related equipment.
  • Build and consistently update a robust dictionary to support accurate and fluent transcription.
  • Actively listen to ensure continuity, clarity, and detail during transcription.
  • Transcribe in real-time or conceptually, based on software capabilities and assignment requirements, using appropriate punctuation and maintaining high accuracy in fast-paced settings.
  • Apply advanced editing skills to ensure clarity for consumers while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive command of the English language, including grammar, syntax, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Possess working knowledge of subject-specific terminology relevant to assigned events or courses.
  • Adhere to an industry-recognized code of ethics and demonstrate general knowledge of Deaf and Hard of Hearing culture.
  • Hold formal training and current licensure in an approved speech-to-text software platform.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to meet licensure and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold all ethical and legal standards related to confidentiality and service delivery.
  • Complete all payroll and service documentation accurately and within required timeframes for verification of services.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • TypeWell Transcribers: current license in your name.
  • CART Providers: current certification, and registration with the State of Nevada.

Salary Range
  • CART $80.00 - $95.00 hourly
  • TypeWell $42.00 - $52.00 hourly
  • Dragon Diction $22.00 - $31.00
  • Note Taker $15.00 hourly
