Primary Purpose:Work under minimal supervision to assist children and others to safely cross the street at assigned intersections during designated hours.Qualifications:Special Knowledge/Skills:Basic knowledge of traffic safety regulationsAbility to identify and respond quickly to traffic safety hazardsAbility to communicate instructions effectively to both children and adultsAbility to read, understand, and follow written instructionsExperience:NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Assist students and other pedestrians to safely cross the street at assigned intersections during designated hours (Monday - Friday, 6:50 AM - 7:50 AM & 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM ; Early Out Friday's 12:15 PM-1:15 PMIdentify potential traffic safety hazards and respond quickly to protect children and avoid incidents.Ensure a smooth and expedient flow of both vehicular and foot traffic.Follow and uphold district safety requirements and report traffic violations and student misconduct in accordance with district procedures.Communicate safety and traffic rules to students and parents as needed.Correct unsafe conditions when possible and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor as soon as practicable.Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps for students and pedestrians to safely cross streets.Discuss traffic routing plans and control point locations with supervisor(s).Distribute traffic control signs and markers at designated points.Keep abreast with the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas.Attend mandatory training related to job duties.Provide appropriate notice to supervisor about absences or tardiness for proper accommodations to be made.
