Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The PT Technician III, Theater performs technical functions at a moderately high level of complexity. Diagnoses and solves related problems, and repairs, installs, and builds equipment and related systems within the scope of the position. The PT, Technician III, Theater assists in the day-to-day operation of the Lone Star Performing Arts Center and Black Box Theater and serves as technical staff for events in both venues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Construction and painting of scenery and props for productions and events
  • Hanging and focusing theatrical lighting equipment
  • Programming and operating the lighting console
  • Setup and operation of audio equipment including speakers, monitors, microphones, and mixing consoles
  • Operating the counterweight fly system
  • Setup and operation of projectors
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, organized scene shop, stage, backstage, and front of house
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Basic knowledge of the safe and effective use of power tools generally used in woodworking
    • Basic knowledge of the safe and effective use of woodworking hand tools
    • Basic knowledge of audio system setup and operation
    • Basic knowledge of theatrical lighting
    • Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner
    • Ability to follow safety precautions at all times
    • Skilled in the use of power tools
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; working at great heights; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of items (up to 50 pounds). The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility, dexterity and balance.
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Will require some nights and weekends due to performance and event schedules
    • Scene shop and stage environments can be loud at times
    • Some work may be performed outdoors
    • Exposure to sawdust and paint fumes (PPE provided)
    • Equipment used includes general carpentry, lighting, sound, and theater equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed inside and outside with some exposure to power tools and paint fumes
    • May require some weekends
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and at least 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience must include at least 1 year in at least one of the following areas: carpentry, theatrical lighting, audio for live entertainment, rigging for the stage and counterweight fly operation, stage management, or scenic painting

    Hourly Pay Rate is $16.33
