Job description

Purpose Of Position The Information Technology Specialist II is focused on delivering high-quality IT services to customers in accordance with the department's mission of delivering innovation through excellent customer service. The IT Specialist II will work closely with the HelpDesk Manager in supporting IT hardware, software, and technology projects critical to the operations of the City's diverse business units. Provide support for City-Wide information technology infrastructure, server, and personal computing applications.

Essential Functions Active Directory Operations and Group Policy End-User/ Client Network Troubleshooting PC Hardware and Software Troubleshooting End-User Application Installation, Patching, and Operations Server Application-Level Administration and Operations AS/400 Applications Enterprise Applications Support Printer troubleshooting Use of the ServiceDesk Plus ticketing system Tablet PC, Server, and Desktop Application Support for End-Users PC Imaging and Deployment System Center Configuration Manager VOIP Device Deployment Microsoft Exchange Operations Remote Client Support (i.e., VPN, Virtual Desktop, 2FA, etc.) Wireless communications Computer and network security practices Mobile Device Management Provide technical support to other cities partnered with the City of Tyler IT department. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Provide software assistance and support through direct and indirect interaction with clients. Providing expertise and support to internal departments, external partners, and clients Integrate individual software solutions to higher level systems as appropriate or when needed

Develop new applications and scripts to enhance Information Technology and other City of Tyler departmental operations, processes, and workflows. Work with technology vendors as needed to resolve system / hardware issues. Communicate with end-users to understand their specific requirements and needs.

Maintain and improve tools used for system analysis Performs other related duties as assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Provide technical support to all levels of staff in response to requests received by the Information Technology Support Line (Help Desk), including but not limited to city supported applications, hardware, peripherals, email, telecommunications, and Internet/Intranet issues. Basic technical aspects of server and desktop operating systems.

Virtual desktop administration. Database administration familiarity with Microsoft SQL, MySQL, and IBM DB2 servers. Knowledge of basic networking including routing, switching, wireless, and VoIP technologies.

Microsoft Windows desktop image standards, deployment methods, and supporting tools and technologies (anti-virus, profile management, user experience monitoring, performance troubleshooting, etc.) Computer networks, servers, Windows desktops, relational database management systems, and enterprise software applications (web based, cloud based, and server based). Fluency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and office productivity software. Collaborate and communicate with non-technical staff, system stakeholders, and managers

Ability to work under pressure and coordinate tasks to address technical or civil emergencies. Present complex concepts to audiences of different levels of technical sophistication. Read and understand complex technical manuals, business documents, policies and procedures, and system documentation.

Ability to write clear, accurate, timely documentation. Collaborate with third party business analysts and developers to produce software designs that most effectively integrate with existing enterprise software. The ability, initiative, and accountability to execute broad assignments requiring minimal direction.

Capability to frequently transition between sitting or kneeling, standing, and moving between offices, desks, cubicles, and other City of Tyler campus locations. Ability to lift and maneuverer equipment of 25 pounds or more. Ability to work in a variety of temperate conditions including cold and hot weather extremes and / or office spaces.

"24/7" availability to field and addresses the concerns of Information Technology department infrastructure systems, personnel, and City of Tyler clients. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Computer Science or related technical field is required, plus at least one (1) year of relevant experience. May consider a combination of relevant experience and education in lieu of an Associate's degree.

Must be willing to work a rotating on-call schedule and overtime as required on nights and weekends. Must possess a valid class "C" driver's license with a clear driving record. The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.

The City of Tyler supports a policy of a drug and alcohol free workplace. All candidates are subject to pre-employment testing, which may include, but is not limited to, Drug and Alcohol Screenings, Work Fitness Evaluation, Criminal Background Check, and Consumer Report/Credit Check. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any regular full-time position.

Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2)and are approved by the City Manager. No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
