  • Interprets and adapts design and construction plans from Engineering blueprints to site conditions for bridges, channels and special structures.
  • Gathers and calculates field data for construction equipment operators/contracts and ensures construction work is performed within acceptable limits.
  • Assists other departments and entities in technical surveying work.
  • Plans ground surveys designed to establish base lines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
  • Collects field data; profiles and cross-sections of drainage channels and topographic data for engineering design.
  • Operates survey equipment including GPS equipment; performs mathematical calculations; collects, analyzes, and interprets Global Positioning System (GPS) data.
  • Meet with landowners to discuss construction on their property.
  • Instructs all levels of equipment operators and bridge crew of technical data shown in plans for construction projects.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • One year job related experience; significant experience in field surveying and construction work preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge of surveying equipment.
  • Good background or understanding of mathematics preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License.
