SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The Substance Abuse Counselor plays a crucial role in supporting individuals battling substance use disorders by providing comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment plans, and ongoing counseling.
This position involves working closely with clients to help them navigate their recovery journey, offering both emotional support and practical resources. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients can achieve their goals for sobriety and overall well-being.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Valid Substance Abuse Professional license/certification or related preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct counseling or facilitation experience in a mental health or substance abuse setting.
  • Assist with counseling and support services for Maze of Life's Reentry Program, helping individuals successfully reintegrate after incarceration or other transitions.
  • Strong knowledge of addiction treatment modalities and recovery principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and create a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and handle challenging situations with professionalism and grace.
  • Passion for helping individuals and families heal and thrive.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough assessments to evaluate clients' substance use history and treatment needs.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote recovery.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure effective support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Facilitate educational workshops and support groups for clients and their families.
  • Collaborate with community resources and referral networks to support client needs beyond treatment.
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary training & supervision and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills.
  • Cross-train in various departmental functions to enhance operational flexibility and support team efficiency.
