Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Part-Time Studio Equipment Assistant position. The primary role of the Studio Equipment Assistant is to support students and faculty in the Department of Visual Arts through management of educational facilities and technical assistance with curriculum. The Studio Equipment Assistant will have responsibility for the safe and effective operation of instructional spaces specific to various art disciplines, including Art classrooms, Art studios, Art woodshop, and Art welding area. In general, the work week for the position will include 10 hours per week Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Supports the academic functions of the department through coordination with the Department Head and departmental faculty on the proper and safe use of department equipment, machinery and facilities.
  • Works with the Department Head and department faculty in the purchase and use of equipment and supplies. As appropriate, makes recommendations for specific equipment, supplies and space to meet the curriculum needs as identified by the faculty. Makes recommendations for the purchase of capital equipment.
  • Works with the Department Head to develop and/or monitor the department budget for equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains and manages inventory of equipment and supplies and monitors student use of equipment. Develop and/or maintain a ¿check out¿ system where students are allowed to use college equipment outside of the classroom.
  • Establishes and oversees procedures for the proper and safe use of equipment by faculty and students, including developing manuals, providing schedules for use, and insuring proper instructions and/or supervision of non-classroom and independent use of equipment.
  • Makes minor repairs to equipment and machinery. Makes recommendations for major repairs or decisions regarding repair or replacement.
  • Serve as a Liaison between faculty and students.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proven organizational and managerial skills necessary to work a part of a team.
  • Clear potential or demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administration and staff.
  • Able to lift and move 50 lbs. and requires the mobility necessary to manage facilities and programs in multiple physical environments.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to stay current and learn appropriate technologies, processes and methods relevant to Visual Arts.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory and facilities management.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or extensive coursework in Visual Arts, or related field.

  • The proposed salary is: $18.34-$20.17 hour.
