Job Summary/Basic Function
About the position:
The Director of Student Programs will work under the general direction of the executive director of the Center for Intercultural Student Engagement (CISE). The director will implement culturally relevant programs including, but not limited to, affinity graduation ceremonies, programs for cultural and/or identity-based months, and immersion trips to influential areas for Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) and other underrepresented students. Additionally, the director will research, identify and implement programs and systems to help to increase the retention and completion of BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
Please Note: Individuals selected for a campus interview will be required to complete a Program Design Exercise. Please come prepared.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement culturally relevant co-curricular and extra-curricular programs in collaboration with other campus partners.
  • Design and lead campus programs, workshops, and training sessions that align with the mission and vision of the CISE.
  • Encourage culturally relevant program involvement from the campus community.
  • Benchmark programming initiatives for BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
  • Utilize an established programming team to implement programs for the cultural and/or identity-based months.
  • Participate in campus-wide committees and working groups as needed.
  • Engage with diverse faculty, staff, and off-campus stakeholders to support the mission of the CISE, as well as the broader diversity and inclusion efforts of the University.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Identity-Based Organization Council (IBOC) and become an additional advocate for BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
  • Plan and implement affinity graduation ceremonies and ensure the students participating in the events are celebrated.
  • Ensure the physical space of the CISE is a welcoming place for BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
  • Provide guidance and support for students who visit CISE members of IBOC organizations, or other underrepresented students.
  • Research, identify and Implement initiatives consistent with retention and persistence for BIPOC, underrepresented and low incomes students.
  • Recruit student leaders to assist with the programs of the CISE.
  • Initiate and manage trainings for student leaders.
  • Serve as a referral resource for campus partners yearning for opportunities to support BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
  • Evaluate the impact of programs from the CISE on BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
  • Participate in Admissions, EPPIIC Weekend, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Final Stretch events.
  • Ensure that all programs remain under the allotted budget.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Three years of significant experience working with students of color, first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students in a higher education setting.
  • Effective cross-cultural competency skills with proven ability to correspond with a variety of stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience in designing culturally relevant programs for college students.
  • Demonstrated ability for improving inclusion and a sense of belonging for underrepresented students.
  • Some understanding of student retention and/or student development theory.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Proficiency in using student records systems, early alert monitoring systems, social media and web communications, and database systems.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with serving underrepresented students.
  • Prior professional work experience in Student Affairs and/or academic support services.
  • Prior experience using specific systems (Banner, SAP, etc.).
  • Spanish fluency.
  • Three - five years of full-time specific experience.
