Job description

Reports to:Manager, Board Governance and Administration

Desired Results of the Position:

  • A Students' Association main office that is welcoming and helpful for students and the college community.
  • Students and the college community receive complete and accurate information in response to their inquiries.
  • Students are aware of and empowered to use their health and dental plan.


Nature and Scope

Reporting to the Manager, Board Governance and Administration the Member Services Representative is responsible for providing support to students and the College community. This position serves as an initial source of information and communication for inquiries about the corporation and its services offered to students.


Job Duties

  • Provide customer service to students and members of the college community.
  • Respond to and direct phone calls and in-person inquiries from students, staff, and visitors to the Algonquin Students' Association main office.
  • Stay well-informed about the SA, College services, and events.
  • Book meeting rooms, maintain up-to-date schedules, and ensure the proper use and monitoring of meeting spaces.
  • Accurately record the usage of the faxing, scanning, and printing services.
  • Process and record payments and sales using both cash and a POS system.
  • Answer and direct questions, assist with inquiries and support students to access their student health and dental plan.
  • Assist in daily cleaning and upkeep of the office and student commons spaces.
  • Support the Member Services team with assigned projects and tasks.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail for SA departments.
  • Uphold the values of Caring, Learning, Integrity, and Respect and the image and reputation of both the SA and Algonquin College.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as an Algonquin College Student in the Spring term.
  • Customer service mindset with previous experience in a customer service setting.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to thrive in a multicultural post-secondary environment.
  • Interest in Office Administration and/or Communications is considered an asset.


Compensation:

  • This is a part-time student position.
  • Wage $17.60 per hour.
  • Approximately 8 - 12 hours per week.


Please note: This position is available only to current Algonquin College students who meet all College Student Employment Program (CSEP) eligibility requirements. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time program.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person/Convention Refugee under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act before the application deadline.
  • Demonstrate financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial assistance.

The following students are not eligible: Second Career students, apprentices, international students, Algonquin College employees paying reduced tuition, students enrolled in collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University, and students enrolled in programs that are not Ministry-approved.
