This Position is Part-Time (24-29 hours per week)
Under the general direction of the department manager and lead/charge nurse or registered nurse, will be responsible for performing general secretarial receptionist and clerical duties in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Performs a variety of clerical duties and activities to provide for the efficient and effective functioning of the Department and communicates with medical staff, other departments and outside agencies.
Essential Functions:
  • Receives patient admission data, reviews demographic data and collects additional data necessary to facilitate authorization of care
  • Communicates wit medical/nursing staff and other departments and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality
  • As requested, assists family enroll for eligible programs, provides program access/enrollment information
  • Answers and manages telephone calls and intercom, relaying information to appropriate personnel
  • Collects and maintains a variety of statistical data of patient visits
  • Maintains record/log of all patient visits
  • Answers department phone, takes/routes messages and provides basic and/or routine information to inquiries in compliance with established patient confidentiality standards
  • Assists with arranging transportation, admissions and tranfers of patients
  • Secures records from previous admissions into the computer correctly for each patient
  • Maintains adequate supply of physician/nursing forms and patient information and release forms
  • Assist with paging overhead as needed
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of incomplete chart items effecting timely delivery of care or discharge
  • Performs a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the unit's environment
  • Participates in a variety of in-services and unit meetings to maintain understanding of care plan changes
  • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
  • Labels each sheet/item in the medical record correctly for each patient
  • Performs all other job related activities as requested

Requirements
  • High school diploma/transcript or GED equivalent required
  • At least 6 months previous customer service and/or clerical experience in a health care setting preferred
  • BLS certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire
