Job description

If you're passionate about working with kids and want to make a lasting impact through sports, join the YMCA of Dane County as a Lead Sports Instructor. Help create a fun, positive, and engaging environment where young athletes can build confidence, develop skills, and discover a lifelong love of sports.

Programs May Include:

  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Flag Football
  • T-Ball
  • Volleyball
  • Multi-Sport Classes
  • Other Youth Sports Programs

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead youth sports classes independently or with an assistant instructor when class size requires additional support.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate practices and activities that emphasize skill development and fun.
  • Create a safe, organized, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Teach sports fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship.
  • Effectively manage participant behavior and keep classes running smoothly.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, participants, volunteers, and YMCA staff.
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet the needs and skill levels of participants.
  • Set up and take down equipment before and after each class.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, and YMCA core values.

At the East YMCA, our instructors do much more than run drills. We are looking for dependable leaders who can confidently take ownership of a class from start to finish. Lead instructors create a welcoming environment, build relationships with participants and families, adapt to unexpected situations, and ensure every child leaves feeling encouraged and successful. Whether leading independently or working alongside an assistant instructor, our goal is to provide every participant with a high-quality experience centered around fun, learning, and personal growth.

Qualifications:

  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the sports being taught.
  • Ability to confidently lead a class independently.
  • Positive attitude and strong organizational skills.
  • Coaching, teaching, or experience working with youth is preferred.
