Title: Certified Phlebotomy Tech I

Location: Fountain Valley, CA.

Department: Clinical Lab Services

Status: Part Time

Shift: Evenings (8 hrs.)

Pay Range: $26.48/hr. - $38.40/hr.

*Position includes working every other full weekend (Saturday & Sunday) and Holidays.

Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values, support Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

Essential Function and Responsibilities of the Job

The Certified Phlebotomist will perform blood collection activities in accordance with Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The Certified Phlebotomist I will perform pre-analytic, post-analytic and data management under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory supervisor or other appropriately California licensed personnel. The Certified Phlebotomist I will demonstrate the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Perform venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities according to laboratory protocol.

Follow laboratory protocol to ensure proper identification of patients and specimens.

Perform pre-analysis and post-analysis of laboratory orders according to department protocols and procedures.

Evaluate quality control and assurance requirements where applicable.

Provide quality laboratory service to clients, patients, physicians, and peers.

Ability to meet department scheduling and attendance requirements.

Require effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means.

Consistently apply infection control policies and procedures.

Attend and actively participate in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings.

Participate in performance improvement projects in the laboratory.

Ensure equipment and safety devices are used as intended and designed.

Ensure compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.

Perform data management and documentation activities.

Ability to be at work and be on time.

Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.

Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Position includes working every other full weekend and Holidays.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience

Education/License/Certification

Minimum one year experience in the clinical laboratory and acute care setting preferred.

Minimum of one year's experience performing venipuncture preferred.

Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment and specimen handling is required.

Knowledge of current information systems preferred.

One year's experience in specimen processing preferred.

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card.

Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by the State of California.

Position includes working every other full weekend and Holidays.
