Part Time Software Engineer Contract information

What is a part time software engineer contract?

A Part Time Software Engineer Contract is a work agreement where a software engineer is hired to perform specific tasks or projects for a company on a part-time basis, typically for a set period. This type of contract offers flexibility in terms of hours worked, often ranging from a few hours a week to several days per month, depending on the project's needs. Part-time contract engineers are usually paid hourly or per project and may work remotely or on-site. These positions are ideal for professionals seeking work-life balance or those who want to supplement their income with additional projects. Contract terms, responsibilities, and benefits can vary widely between employers.

How does working as a part-time software engineer contractor impact collaboration with full-time team members?

As a part-time software engineer contractor, you may face the challenge of aligning your schedule and communication with full-time team members who are present more consistently. To address this, contractors often coordinate regular check-ins, use collaborative tools, and stay proactive about status updates. While you may not participate in every meeting or decision, clear communication and setting expectations with the team help ensure your contributions are integrated smoothly. Many organizations support flexible collaboration, making it possible to work effectively despite differing work hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time software engineer contractor?

To thrive as a Part Time Software Engineer Contractor, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with relevant software development methodologies, often backed by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and project management tools, as well as proficiency in languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript, are typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and adaptability help you efficiently deliver results and collaborate remotely with clients or teams. These skills and qualities are essential for meeting project deadlines, maintaining code quality, and ensuring successful client relationships in a flexible work arrangement.

Cyber Platforms Software Engineer, Senior
The Opportunity:
We build software for large, fast-changing cyber problems where speed, scale, and complexity demand better tools. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll work across production systems used by operators, analysts, and cyber experts today, while also helping develop new capabilities from early technical concept to deployed product.
On our team, you'll move across the stack through back-end services, data systems, user-facing tools, automation, containers, and cloud infrastructure. You'll bring judgment to ambiguous problems, make practical technical tradeoffs, and work close to users to understand where software holds up or breaks down in real-world use.
What You'll Work On:
  • Build software that helps operators make sense of fragmented, high-volume cyber data.
  • Make complex cyber workflows more reliable, observable, and repeatable at enterprise scale.
  • Take new cyber capabilities from early technical concept to prototype and deployed product.
  • Apply AI, analytics, and decision-support techniques to reduce analyst burden and improve operator decision-making.
  • Develop orchestration and human-in-the-loop systems that help cyber teams coordinate, prioritize, and act.

This role is for engineers who want to build software that is used now and help define the next generation of cyber capabilities.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 4+ years of experience building, shipping, and supporting production software through software engineering in a professional environment
  • 3+ years of experience building back-end services, APIs, data workflows, or platform components with Python
  • 2+ years of experience working with Docker or Kubernetes, containers, and reproducible development or deployment workflows
  • 2+ years of experience building, deploying, or operating software on cloud platforms such as AWS
  • 2+ years of experience designing or operating production systems that use databases, APIs, queues, caches, background jobs, or distributed-system patterns
  • 2+ years of experience owning technical delivery for a feature, service, product area, or engineering workstream
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems

Nice If You Have:
  • 2+ years of experience building front-end applications with React, TypeScript, or modern front-end frameworks
  • Experience building software for cyber operations, cyber defense, threat detection, security operations, or related environments
  • Experience working with cyber ranges, digital twins, adversary simulation, vulnerability research, reverse engineering, or detection engineering
  • Experience with operational data such as logs, telemetry, network data, endpoint data, or security events
  • Experience building AI-enabled, agentic, or LLM-based applications that were deployed to users or integrated into production systems
  • Experience supporting defense, intelligence, national security, R&D, or other mission-focused customers
  • Master's degree in a CS, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, or technical field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
