Join our congenial team and lend your expertise to inspect civil engineering infrastructure that is being constructed/repaired in the public right-of-way per approved construction drawings. Manages construction project specifications and logistics for the City. Types of civil engineering infrastructures include, but are not limited to, sanitary sewer lines, sewer manholes, water mains, fire hydrants, water meters, storm water piping, inlets and junction boxes, and street repair, reconstruction and repaving, sidewalks and ADA Compliant accommodations. This is accomplished by applying advanced construction methods and processes to include handling project documentation, ensuring conformance with ordinances and regulations, reviewing project procedures, and administering logistics for construction projects. Other duties include maintaining project financial records and attending conferences and meetings with contractors and other special interest parties.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performs advanced construction inspections for City contracts; assures conformance to approved plans and City standards.
  • Documents observations daily electronically according to the prescribed departmental standards for record keeping. Notifies supervisor of substandard or non-conforming construction.
  • Assists department by providing technical assistance to personnel; meeting with contractors and related personnel; and conducting project inspections. Actively participates in the project acceptance process by the initial walk through inspections; creates a punch-list of non-conforming construction to be corrected by the contractor. Follows-up with re-inspecting corrections for compliance.
  • Inspects infrastructure for acceptance by checking grade, concrete forms, asphalt repairs, CCTV videos and reports, other water and sanitary sewer plans and specifications and reports, subsurface soil conditions and other pertinent parameters. Calculates slopes, measures and confirms dimensions.
  • Performs field reconnaissance in support of department engineering projects.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
  • Three years of related experience sufficient to understand the operational and technical processes involved in the assignment.
  • A valid North Carolina Class "C" Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record obtained within the timeframe established by the City.
